Couple Smiling at Each Other

TaTanisha Parker, Ed.D, LPC-S, NCC, CSC

As a Psychotherapist, I empower individuals, couples, or families to overcome personal obstacles to improve their lives. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and a Board Certified National Counselor (NCC).  I have also been a Certified School Counselor(CSC) for over 14 years.  I earned a Doctorate of Counselor Education and I hold multiple certifications in various areas of counseling. I am an active member of various professional organizations such as American Group Psychotherapy Association, Fort Bend Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, and Texas Council on Family Violence.  I have served as a presenter at the Texas Counseling Association Conference to provide information on Teen Dating Violence and Cyber bullying.

I graduated from Texas Southern University where I earned a doctorate and master’s degree in Counselor Education.  I also earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from University of Houston. I continue to educate myself by attending national and local conferences, keeping up with current therapy research and consulting with my peers.

The approach I primarily use is Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Brief Solution Focused Therapy to assist individuals in recognizing how their thoughts and feelings can influence their behavior.  I use a variety of techniques to provide an interactive and enjoyable therapeutic experience. I provide clients with tailored treatment plans that can be integrated into their daily lives. I prescribe to a strength-based perspective which means working together to find past and present successes and using these to address the challenges currently being faced.

Based on my extensive experience in the school system as a Lead Guidance Counselor, I also specialize in working with children (ages 5-12) and adolescents/teens (ages 13-17) to provide counseling in the areas of anger management, anxiety, dating violence, and bullying. I am dedicated to equipping adolescents with tools for building healthy relationships, conflict resolution, decision making, and boundaries. I also offer parent consultation and guidance in areas of children behavioral disturbances, conduct and oppositional disorders, adjustment disorders, reunification, and blended family.

My goal is to provide you with excellent therapeutic services in a warm and supportive environment. If you’re seeking support and guidance through a challenging situation or you’re ready to move in a new direction, I look forward to working with you to help you achieve your goals.

I am approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors to provide supervision to LPC-Interns who are working towards the required 3,000 practicum hours. Supervision will be based on the guidelines established by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Clinical supervision is an investment in your career. It is important that you select a supervisor that will help you grow as a professional while providing sound guidance and direction. Having been where you are, I am very familiar with the anxious excitement of being a licensed intern. The classroom provided the education, your practicum site exposed you to reality, and clinical supervision will serve as your professional guide and preparatory step to becoming fully licensed.

LPC Supervision includes:
1. Exploration of counseling techniques, evaluation of clinical skills, application of theories, guidance in clinical diagnosis
    and code of ethics.
2. Assistance with licensing paperwork and documentation of clinical hours
3. On site visits /direct observation of counseling skills
4. Review of case notes, documentation and treatment plans
5. Individual and Group Supervision in keeping with board rules
6. Professional guidance regarding private practice, industry networking, and mentoring

I am currently accepting LPC-Interns. The first step in the process is to meet to see if we would be a good fit for each other. Please email me at [email protected] or contact my office at 281 997-8400 to schedule an appointment to discuss/interview. Supervision is a relationship that one should enter into fully knowing what they will get from a potential supervisor.
