Your beliefs about concerns are the core of your world. Exploring and addressing these beliefs are where change occurs. You know what would be helpful in your world because you have been successful in problem solving before. Sometimes you may just need a safe place to evaluate what is happening in your world. I will work with you in a nonjudgmental way to rediscover those solutions that work best for you.
My primary treatment orientations are Experiential, Solution-focused, and Family Systems with Animal Assisted Therapy. I believe it is important to include those close to you in sessions. When appropriate, you will be invited to include those significant individuals with you in your sessions.
When working with children, I use directive and non-directive play therapy to understand their beliefs and concerns and then assist them with working through their concerns. I have also previously worked four years as an elementary school counselor and work with children addressing academic underachievement, academic over-achievement, classroom behavior issues, and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD).
I have been trained in the SITCAP model when addressing trauma. The primary intervention strategies used in this model include exposure, trauma narrative, and cognitive reframing. Drawing is used as the major component of exposure.
My specialties include trauma, depression, loss or grief, self-esteem, anxiety and panic, anger management, behavioral issues, and divorce. I also offer premarital counseling and marital enhancement using the PREPARE/ENRICH program. I have also received Gottman Level 1 training.
I work with all age groups:
- Toddlers / Preschoolers (0 to 6)
- Children (6 to 10)
- Preteens / Tweens (11 to 13)
- Adolescents / Teenagers (14 to 19)
- Adults (20+)
