Angelica Melissa Garza-Benavides, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Garza-Benavides primarily provides psychological evaluations for immigration proceedings. Currently she conducts psychological evaluations for immigration cases related to extreme hardship (petition waivers), U-Visas, VAWA (domestic violence) cases, human trafficking cases (T-visas) and asylum cases. She has also recently been trained by the Department of Justice to conduct competency evaluations for immigration cases.

Dr. Garza-Benavides has worked with the Department of Homeland Security conducting psychological evaluations for Unaccompanied Minors through the Office of Refugee Resettlement. In addition, she has provided psychotherapy to crime victims for clients seeking services from the Texas Attorney General’s Crime Victims Program. Dr. Garza-Benavides has worked with the Harris County and Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Departments conducting court ordered psychological assessments, psychotherapy, and placement evaluations, as well as the Harris County Psychiatric Center working with the adolescent population. She has forensic experience with both adolescents and adults and has worked with individuals with a myriad of mental health disorders.

In addition to psychological evaluations for immigration cases, Dr. Garza-Benavides currently provides training seminars for attorneys, businesses, and schools to address the specific needs of the agency/institution. The goal can vary from educating staff on cultural sensitivity, learning the value of psychological evaluations in court cases, or addressing other psychological topics such as bullying, etc.
